Shades of Cool

Living in North Carolina, I’ve learned that dressing differently than the norm in a small town is considered “too much” or “showing off.” I, however, yearn for the high fashion of bigger cities and pride myself on daring to be different. Though I love black, I’ve begun to incorporate more colors into my wardrobe and wear whatever makes me feel fabulous that day.
Christian Dada’s Tokyo Fall 2015 runway look is brilliant. It embodies many of the looks that I’m interested in, as well as many of the popular looks of the season, such as jean jackets, fuzzy sweaters, pleated skirts, and oversized coats. Though at first it begins with simply black, colors begin to blend into the outfits, with a perfect item that completes the look, such as a fuzzy top hat or a large colored jacket.
All of the dark colors and heavy jackets give off a mysterious, vampire-like quality. The red lipstick and intense eyes were enough to make me want to become a dangerous muse in an old Hollywood film noir. The different colored fuzzy top hats added so much to the outfits and gave a feeling of being in Russia. I love the dark, dramatic, European vibe that his models gave and the splashes of color thrown into the outfits to balance it all out. His looks were trends that were easy to match and create new outfits with. He brings to life the combination of punk and the color black, making it an effortlessly cool show. His model’s outfit, number 26, inspired me greatly with her punk-cool European mixture.
I searched my closet and pulled out a white t-shirt, which I knotted to the right, along with my faded jean jacket. I paired my top with black high waisted shorts, thick black knee-high socks, and my Steve Madden Gelsey black booties. The look wasn’t quite done yet and needed a little bit more edge, more punk, to it so to finish it off, I threw on my black “Wasted Youth” beanie. Of course, I’m always wearing lipstick and the outfit wouldn’t be complete without a lip color. Not wanting to go too dramatic and wanting to go more with the natural, subtle look, I combined lipsticks Rimmel London’s Coffee Shimmer and Sephora’s Ingenuous. To add the final touch, I put on my black round sunglasses because no lady can be fabulous without a pair of sunglasses to add an aura of mystery. Voila, I’ve successfully incorporated runway fashion into my every day life, making my day just a little more fabulous.
