When it comes to fashion, the celebrity world is full of trendsetters. From Beyonce to Kylie Jenner to Kanye West to Stevie Nicks- the world has followed and obsessed over celebrities’ style like it was their own child. Music, Art, and Fashion go hand in hand. All three require each other and are often inevitably entangled. All three are ways of expression, self-form, and freeing ways of being oneself. Fashion is a way of showing who you are without needing to speak. It is a way of showing what you’re about and what you’re interested in. The way people dress says a lot about them, whether they realize it or not.
A celebrity with excellent taste whose popularity has only spread with the passing years is artist Rihanna. Through her music and her clothes, she is giving the world the image that she wants to represent. Her style expresses self-confidence and rebellion. She can be feminine and pretty in pinks or wear street style and look hood in hats. Not just with her clothes, but with her different hairstyles, lipsticks, and jewelry, Rihanna creates her own style by not caring about trends. Her style is a variety of different types of fashion and she always combines them so well. She emanates strength and beauty in a way that influences women. Whatever look she decides to pull off, she always looks flawless and masters the look effortlessly. Not being afraid to break the boundaries of fashion and making a name for yourself, whether it is positive or negative, is a true sign of an icon.
Rihanna won the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2014 and the trophy was presented by none other than the iconic editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour. Wintour said that with Rihanna, "the point is to be audacious — even jaw-dropping or button-pushing." Rihanna claimed at the awards that, "Fashion has always been my defence mechanism." She continued, saying, "I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion. There are rules, but rules are meant to be broken." (The Associated Press 1).
