Trend of the Week: You Can Never Go Wrong With Plaid

With the arrival of Spring, flowers are beginning to bloom and nice weather returns. Unfortunately if you’re in North Carolina, the weather is bipolar, making it a constant battle between low 50’s and high 70’s every week. Finding the perfect outfit is a struggle. It’s hard to figure out what to wear when you’re constantly sweating through everything, but freezing at work or in a classroom. It’s extremely easy to fall into the lazy category with your outfits because you’re in that in-between stage. Here is where the plaid shirt comes in.

The good news is you can throw on any plain or graphic tee on with a pair of jeans and still make it exciting. The plaid shirt wrapped around the waist is a style that never goes out of style and is used for every season. This week I mixed two simple items of clothing and gave it a refreshing twist by wrapping a plaid shirt around my waist. Many hot celebrities such as Beyonce, Kylie Jenner, and Alexa Chung have been rocking the shirt around the waist style with various outfits. Not only is the material of the shirt breezy and light, but it is also perfect for throwing around your shoulders inside a cold air conditioned room. It is a perfect solution for styling up on a hot day outside and staying warm inside. A plaid shirt wrapped around the waist can add an edge to any outfit and throw off a very playful, relaxed vibe.

Here are different examples on how to rock the plaid-around-the-waist look:

My Look: I wore a sleeveless black Beatles graphic t-shirt with dark denim blue jeans. I wore black Steve Madden boots and added my leather jacket to give it an edgier, grungy look (and because my leather jacket is always a must). I added a red flannel around my waist to give the outfit more of a layered, put together look.

Model 2: This Fashionista spices up a long sleeved white t-shirt by knotting it at the corner and letting more of her high-waisted denim shorts, as well as her belly-button ring show. This gives the outfit a bit more of an interesting and flirty feel to it. She adds jewelry to her fingers and wrist to balance the feminine with her ‘90s relaxed look. She completes the look perfectly with white Nike air force ones instead of regular, every day sandals. Her outfit is simple, yet completely fabulous.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: “One of my favorite accessories to add to an outfit is a flannel or button up tied around my waist. It is so versatile! It's fashionable placed around the waist and easily accessible when it gets a little chilly or even adding a pop of color to a neutral outfit; it goes with any occasion if styled right, you can't go wrong!"

Model 3: She wears black rhinestone-pocket jeans, a blank top, and black flats. She adds a pop of color to this simple, sophisticated look with her blue jean shirt wrapped around her waist. When it comes to tying a shirt around your waist, plaid is not the only option. A blue jean shirt is equally as popular and versatile. Sometimes changing up the fashion brings more interest and a touch of personal style to the oufit. She completes the outfit with a turquoise blue ring and a long, dangle necklace.
