Street Wear Style

The dictionary defines street style as ‘any offbeat or avant-garde fashion inspired by contemporary culture of urban street people.’ The urban dictionary defines street style as ‘a type of fashion that is personal to you. It is something that displays your personality but it still highly trendy and cool. It may even be seen as controversial to others.’ Basically, street style is a combination of your personal style along with universal, current fashions.

Street Style was first cited as starting with Bill Cunningham, who was a photographer in 1978 that snapped candid photographs of people on the street and found trends among them. The people whose photographs he took were representatives of the fashions of the time (even if the people in his photos wouldn't be considered particularly fashionable). Cunningham's work was important in documenting the fashion of a time. Similarly, photographers like Jamle Shabazz and Shosuke Ishizu captured hip-hop style in the mid-'70s and Ivy League style in the mid-'60s. They would photograph their subjects in both posed and candid shots that let individuals showcase trends like Cazal eyeglasses and varsity jackets. Karen Robinovitz of Digital Brand Architects said, “There is an organic authenticity to street style, a rawness that appeals. It's not perfectly glossy and Photoshopped, so it feels real and truthful.”

Our model showcases her street style by rocking a black tank top layered with a dark flannel and gray leggings. She added a touch of popular fashion by including Calvin Klein underwear to show around her waist. She perfected the look with the popular braids that the Kardashians have recently taken as a trademark and a pair of light gold hoop earrings along with white shoes. She channels a 90s hip hop vibe and showcases her personal style, and preference with her outfit.
